To all students at UIC School of Architecture:
This is the first of two call for submissions for Fresh Meat Vol4, stay tuned for the second opportunity in the next week or so.
The “How to…” Diagram
Description: The theme for this next issue will be a “How to…” manual for various forms of architectural production and provocation. Fresh Meat contends that architectural thought occurs in a wider range of venues and medium than most of the world is aware. We offer you this chance to turn your personal obsessions, habits and pet peeves into potential moments for architectural revelation. A deceptively simple diagram of instructions with propagandistic potential, the “how-to” piece is your chance to goad architecture in new or underexplored directions.
Invent, speculate, dare to dream: the more surprises, the better.
A few examples of existing proposals:
- “How to start a rumor”
- “How to win an award at UIC”
- “How (not) to run your own studio”
- “How to turn TV into architecture”
- “How to turn architecture into a party”
This call for submission will take place in two rounds. Publication is not guaranteed until final selections made from round two submissions.
Round 1 Guidelines: Format text and graphic on 8 ½ x 11 .pdf (300 dpi): 100 – 200 words describing your idea and its potential; a small sample (i.e. one diagram) of how your idea will be represented graphically.
